Applications Scientist (Diplom/Masters or PhD in sciences or engineering), f/m. Mannheim, Germany
Atomic Force F&E GmbH, the European distributor for Asylum Research, the technology leader in scanning probe/atomic force microscopy, is seeking an Applications Scientist to assist current and potential customers using AFMs in many diverse applications - from biology to semiconductors. The position will be based in Mannheim, Germany and will require frequent travel throughout Europe.

Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include performing product demonstrations, running samples, and training/supporting customers on Asylum Research microscopes in the field and at the Mannheim office. The Applications Scientist will be responsible for applications and customer support on instrumentation and accessories. The position also requires scientific presentations at conferences, workshops and customer demonstrations. The candidate will also assist with new product development and applications as dictated by customer requirements.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have a solid academic background (PhD preferred) and will have a minimum of five years practical and theoretical AFM experience, preferably encompassing work in the fields of physics, materials, and/or life sciences. The candidate must be a fast, self-learner and have excellent communications skills, both written and oral, and must be able to understand customer needs, gain customer feedback and develop a strong understanding of competitive technology and products. Asylum Research microscope experience and IGOR Pro programming a plus. Fluent German and English oral/written skills are required.

GUI Software Programmer, Santa Barbara, CA
Asylum Research is seeking a high level GUI software programmer. Candidates should preferably have a working knowledge of IGOR Pro software. Duties will include design and implementation of user interface code, writing routines to acquire and analyze data from the microscope, quality testing of software, technical support, and user training. Other than software programming and math skills, candidates should have proven AFM experience, be able to independently manage multiple tasks, demonstrate creativity in solving problems, have good verbal and written skills, and be able to work both independently and in group environments. Both entry level and advanced programmers will be considered.
